1. How clearly has leadership defined why AI matters for your schools? We have mostly avoided the topic or treated it as a temporary disruption. Individual leaders are exploring, but we do not have a shared direction. We have shared priorities and can explain what AI should support. AI is connected to our learning vision, strategy, and measurable district goals.

2. What best describes your AI guidance and decision-making? There is no consistent guidance. Our response is mostly reactive rules, restrictions, or case-by-case decisions. A task force, pilot, or documented guidelines provide an initial structure. We have clear governance, ownership, review cycles, and input from affected groups.

3. How intentional is your district's AI access and infrastructure? We do not provide supported AI access. Staff find and use tools independently. We provide approved AI products with training and data-use expectations. We have a secure, integrated environment and a long-term infrastructure strategy.

4. How are educators using AI in their professional work? AI use is discouraged, ignored, or largely unknown. A few educators experiment independently. Educators regularly use AI to support planning, feedback, or routine work. Teams use AI strategically, evaluate its impact, and share effective practices.

5. What does student use of AI look like in classrooms? Student use is prohibited or not openly addressed. Use is inconsistent and depends on the individual teacher. Students engage with AI in guided learning experiences with clear expectations. Students use AI purposefully and can explain, critique, and defend their choices.

6. How much agency do students have in understanding and shaping AI? Students are mainly passive users or are kept away from AI. Students learn basic prompting and responsible-use rules. Students compare outputs, examine bias, and modify how AI supports their work. Students design, build, or configure AI-supported solutions to authentic problems.

7. How aligned is your culture around AI-related change? Fear, avoidance, or conflicting messages dominate. Conversations are happening, but they rarely produce shared decisions. Leaders and staff share language, expectations, and professional learning. We use evidence and feedback to refine practice while protecting human judgment.
